The forklift is a material handling machine utilized to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each part of a forklift has a specific function. Different components can be used to move the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts utilized for lifting loads to different heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is situated in the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated within the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This consists of the counterweights located at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
